In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, Jana ran a survey of consumers in nine markets to learn more about their feelings on online dating. To ascertain which services and platforms are most popular, we provided respondents in each market with several options according to availability. For example, respondents in India were given 13 global and local platforms from which to choose (as well as ‘none of the above’ and ‘other: please specify’ options).

Key insights:

  • Facebook is the main way that our respondents chose to seek out a romantic partner.
  • Twitter and even MySpace are popular choices for online dating.
  • Specialized online dating services are not widely popular among respondents, and are perceived as untrustworthy.

Our results offered some really surprising insight into how emerging market consumers are using social media – especially Facebook. Take a look at our infographic below, and let us now your thoughts on Twitter: @Jana
